Rökkurró, the Akureyri Cultural Festival that celebrate´s the town´s birthday, begins at the Lystigarður with a ceremony and entertainment held in the cosy evening atmosphere of the illuminated garden.
The event will be held on the evening of Friday the 28th of August, beginning at 8:40pm.
Guitarist Ivan Mendez will set the tone shortly before the mayor Berglind Ósk Guðmundsdóttir, formally opens the festival and presents the Akureyri Culture Night programme.
After the mayor's address, Páll from Húsafell farm will play an instrument he created from stone, hewn from a gully on his farm, accompanied by instrumentalists conducted by Hilmar Örn Agnarson. Next comes the dance school Steps performs the piece FLOW. Jazz performed with the hand and instruments follows with the THE Trío that will lead guests into the night.
The programme is scheduled to end around 10:00 PM.
While at the garden taken in the open exhibition, Út í garð (Out in the garden), by Charlotte Søeborg. The exhibition of metal scultptures of insects hiding througout the garden stretches all the way to the Art Museum. After the ceremony Charlotte will offer a guided tour of the exhibition, which will be formally opened at the Art Museum on Saturday the 29th at 3pm.
