Snow lingers at the Lystigarður

Please walk on the ploughed pathways

We have now entered "einmánuður", the last winter month in the old norse calendar, and its evident the garden is still in the grips of winter with ample snow cover.

Snow can be both a blessing and a curse for plants. Heavy snow cover can protect developing plants from damaging winter weather and provides moisture as it melts. Winter can be devasting time though for trees and shrubs, with heavy snow and ice often causing branches to break, which can in turn lead to plant disease. It might be temping to remove snow from tree branches, but this might cause further damage so its best to let the snow melt naturally.

As our plants are developing under the snow we ask that guest please stay on the ploughed pathway, be wary of ice and be careful of snow falling off roofs.
